Poem for Den Helder

Municipality of Den Helder 2006

The work, subtitled ‘Poem for Den Helder’, is a continuation of the manifestation ‘Kaap Helder’ that took place in the summer of 2003. At the time I called upon the residents of Den Helder to give me an old T-shirt together with a word that signified why the town was important to them. One hundred and twenty people responded. The words were embroidered on the T-shirts and these were exhibited during the manifestation.

For ‘Sea, way of the world’ the T-shirts were stacked in an exhibition case. The submitted words were made into a poem that was laser etched on the case’s glass.

The case has a cornet steel pedestal, the height of the work is 1.70m.
