Het heeft nut
In the video ‘Het Heeft Nut’, It Makes Sense , two very different visions are combined to make a whole, from a line of ants marching along the jungle floor to insect-like markings moving over an animation. Traffic collides with it’s abstract counterpart sparking associations. Trees rush by in the subway like a filigree of graffiti as swear-words are glimpsed. There is walking and dancing, playing and clapping.
Verhoijsen’s camera looks out and her images bounce off and through Houweling’s shifting frames giving the film a sense of a stream of consciousness, a half seen language of marks in a kaleidoscopic flow.
Music by Blom is poured through the mix binding the disparate elements into a poetry of free association and visual rhythms. Elements cross over, dissolving and transforming, strengthening and enforcing before being whisked away into another combination.
Through Glazier’s edit the viewer is swept into a stream of imagery evoking a narrative that never resolves. Instead it is the experience of the procession that becomes the subject of this adventure.
